2010 MWDC Presenters: Gladys Long

Gladys Long has a long list of accomplishments. She is a 30 year Ovarian Cancer Survivor and a Melanoma Survivor for 20 years.

Gladys is mother of three, grandmother of six and great-grandmother of three. She is a Mexican citizen who has been a legal resident of Georgia for 47 years.

She received an Art Degree and Business Administration Degree in Mexico. Since 2001 to the present time she is the Project Coordinator and Latino Outreach, for “Heart of the Community”, Bosom Buddies of Georgia, Inc. and Georgia Cancer Foundation. Gladys is their Outreach and Health Coordinator, and Committee Chair for the Race for the Cure, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Gladys has received many awards in her years of work with cancer patients and minorities of the Spanish/Latina communities. In 2008 she received the Shades of Pink Foundation Award and the Latino Community Hero Award. In 2009 she was the winner of the Spanish Leadership Award – Outstanding Leadership and Diversity Enhancement. Already in 2010 she is the recipient of the SOY UNICA – SOY Latina Award by CEPTA – Inspirational Caring for the Emotional Well-Being of Latino Families.

From 2005 to the present Gladys is the Facilitator for Latino Cancer Survivors Support Group, “Entre Amigas”.

Gladys’ Mission and Vision is to: Bring to the community outreach educational programs to promote awareness in early detection on Breast Cancer culturally appropriate to Minority groups and Refugees, Immigrants and Undocumented Aliens with information in their own language and to develop support groups in their origin language and provide emotional support and services during diagnoses and recovery of Breast Cancer.
