The Multicultural Women's Development
Conference (MWDC)
The MWDC is an annual , two-day event
focused on women. The goals of the MWDC are to teach
women self-reliance, build self-esteem, increase self-confidence
and respect, to build relationships across culture
and race, and to help women reconnect with their own
culture and heritage. The conference has been held
since its inception at the Hinton Rural Life Center,
located in Hayesville, NC, and for over seven straight
years, over 100 women have attended.
Conference Overview
Focus
One of the few leadership development and empowerment
conferences designed for and presented by women of
all races, ethnicities, and socio-economic backgrounds,
the MWDC provides a secure forum for exploring those
issues that impact the lives of women. It provides
an exceptional experience rich in informative and
engaging activities, and is designed to stimulate
a process of growth, reflection, and advancement in
the areas of health, education, and economic development.
Who Should
Attend
Women of all ages, nationalities, races, creeds, religions,
and socio-economic backgrounds. Although the conference
focuses specifically on women, all adults are invited
to attend, regardless of race, religious affiliation,
national or ethnic origin. The conference is an equal
opportunity project of One Dozen Who Care, Inc. and
a partnership of community-minded individuals.
Outcomes
During this program, participants:
- Strengthen leadership styles and
effectiveness.
- Foster peace, understanding, and
concern for women of diverse cultural and socio-economic
backgrounds.
- Develop priorities, particularly
as they relate to personal and professional development.
- Identify potential personal and
professional hazards.
- Enhance the ability to work with,
as well as to lead, a diverse community of individuals.
- Develop understanding and key skills
around mentorship.
- Have a fun-filled, entertaining
event that helps women reconnect with themselves.
