Since she has taught on a predominately white campus for all of her tenure, Joy has encountered a unique set of challenges. Many of the challenges resulted from preconceived and stereotypical attitudes that students had about their professor and their fellow classmates. It was in the context of the classroom that she first began to use tools and teaching methods for "cross cultural training" and to help expose and understand stereotypical attitudes.
In this session, you will learn how we unconsciously stereotype people, how this negatively impacts our lives and the lives of others, and what we can do to change our stereotyped perceptions.
