Michelle Lloyd

While passing through Hiawassee, Georgia, on a warm summer day, Irma Jean Lloyd gave birth to Michelle Lloyd. Records show that Michelle was the first Black female born in the Hiawassee hospital.

Michelle attended W. J. Scott Elementary School in Atlanta, Georgia. After her mother's death, Michelle had to move to Hayesville, North Carolina. Michelle was thirteen, at the time. For the remainder of her school years, Michelle attended Hayesville High School where she actively participated in track, volleyball, basketball, and was a cheerleader. Michelle graduated, in 1988, with honors, after maintaining a 3.86 GPA in a class of 72.

Michelle enrolled at Tri County Community College, in Murphy, NC. Being uncertain of what she wanted to do next, but certain that she was going to continue her education, she obtained a Certificate in College Transfer. When a friend offered her the opportunity to become a roommate, Michelle returned to Atlanta and attended Phillips Medical and Dental School and obtained a two-year degree as a pharmacy technician. During a summer break, the college burned down, forcing the students to transfer to Devry Institute. Michelle completed her degree and began working at Grady Memorial Hospital as a pharmacy technician.

Several years in this position convinced Michelle that the overabundance of employees in the pharmacy industry left little future for her. She decided that her calling was in management. She secured a position with Hunter Douglas, Inc., and worked for them for five years; three as a supervisor in the vertical blinds department. Soon, Michelle was a sales representative for the company and traveled to Texas, Colorado and Washington.

Michelle has also held management positions at Wendy's and Little Caesar's Pizza. She has two children, a son, Jocquise, and a daughter, Endicia. Both Jocquise and Endicia participate in One Dozen's 10-10-10 Youth Mentoring Program and both are students at Hayesville Middle School.

Most recently, Michelle graduated from Tri-County Community College with a degree in Healthcare Management. She is working on her four-year degree as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHOA). For the past seven years, Michelle has been employed at Murphy Medical Center, where she has held various positions as a certified nursing assistant, head unit coordinator, and as a computer specialist for point of care.
